The Location:

Located in the heart of Port Aransas, this iconic restaurant is surrounded by fun shopping and is just a golf cart ride away!

This image shows the charm of our old location.

Please visit us at our new location – 337 N Alister St, Port Aransas, TX 78373.

The Restaurant History:

A “Castaway” from his family’s restaurant business, Danny Danglade founded Castaway’s Seafood and Grill in 1993. It has been an Island favorite ever since. The building was previously home to “Grandma’s Kitchen” and the “Chicken Coop”. The Jones Family from Port Aransas purchased Castaway’s in 2005.

Castaway’s prides itself on hand battered fried seafood made to order, whether it’s your catch or ours. Over the years, the menu has expanded to offer something for everyone; from corn dogs and chicken strips for the little sailors to Angus Rib Eyes and pasta dishes. We bake the breads for our Po-Boys daily, make an excellent Gumbo, and serve the BEST, shell on, Jumbo Grilled Shrimp, seasoned with our own secret “Chef’s Choice” seasoning.

Castaway’s feeds 80,000 customers annually (that’s 10,000 lbs of shrimp!!), almost ¾ of that during our summer season from late May to early August. If you’re here for the summer, I would encourage you to come back in September and October. Those months are hidden treasures for those of us fortunate to live on the Island full time. The weather is as good as it gets, fish jump in the boats, and the beach is nearly uninhabited! (ok, so I’m fibbing a little!).

Thank you for joining us for a meal.

While we are saddened to see the home of Castaway’s Seafood & Grill for the past 24 years be devastated by Harvey, we are also very excited to have a new, even better location to move into.

The Owners of Castaway’s Seafood and Grill also own the property across the street, most recently operated as The Phoenix. Previously, for almost 20 years, that space was occupied by the Pelican Landing Restaurant. The Phoenix owners have decided a smaller footprint works better with their concept and are reopening in the Island Moorings Marina at the end of 2017. Thus, moving Castaways across the street into a new address made the most sense for the owners.

Remediation and construction has been our priority since we returned from the hurricane. Hurricane Harvey left the frame standing, but otherwise almost every square inch of the “new” Castaways will be rebuilt. We’ll “trick out” the bones of the old building to give Castaways a new look and feel. We’ll carry with us the old menu that everyone loved- but also follow suit with some upgrades to suit the lighter/healthier diner as well broaden the daily menu selections.

We have also been busy remodeling The Shops At Old Town and hope to have them open the first of the year. We’re excited to have neighbors!
