A Castaway in the sea
of family traditions
Danny Danglade decided to sail away from his family’s restaurant scene and opened Castaway’s Seafood and Grill in 1993. You might have caught a taste of us as “Grandma’s Kitchen” or the “Chicken Coop” – but it wasn’t until 1993 that we found the perfect match in the name Castaway’s. Over the years, the restaurant has been under the ownership of the Danglades (1993-2005), the Jones family (2005-2021), and currently, it thrives under the stewardship of the Hernandez family from 2021-today.

On August 25, 2017, Hurricane Harvey took its toll on the original Castaways on Alister Street. However, fueled by love from Port A locals and visitors, by August 25, 2018, we were back in action just across the street
Quality Food & Good Vibes
Castaways prides itself on hand-battered fried seafood made to order – whether it’s your catch or ours. Over the years, our menu has grown to cater to all tastes – featuring corn dogs and chicken strips for our little sailors to treats for four-legged friends, as well as Angus Rib Eyes and pasta dishes to delight every tastebud. We make an excellent Gumbo, and serve the BEST, shell on, Jumbo Grilled Shrimp, seasoned with our own secret “Chef’s Choice” seasoning.
Castaways serves up to 80,000 customers each year
That’s a whopping 10,000 lbs of shrimp! Almost three-quarters of this happens during our bustling summer season – from late May to early August. But if you’re looking for a hidden treasure, we’d recommend coming in September or October. The weather is pure bliss, the fish practically leap into the boats, and let’s keep this between us – the beach is almost yours alone (ok, so I’m fibbing a little).
